Bring Items To Be Shredded To Senior Center
The Hartford Courant June 12, 2009 A community-wide shredding day will be held Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in front of the senior center entrance at the L.P. Wilson Community Center, 599 Matianuck Ave. Recall, a local company, will provide the shredding equipment for free. Acceptable items include checks, envelopes, coated and colored paper, newspapers and magazines. Beverage containers, food, food wrappers, paper towels, tissues, pizza boxes, plastic shrink wrap, rubber bands, Styrofoam, toner cartridges and wet waste are not accepted. The Hartford Courant May 18, 2009 A Massachusetts man pulled over today for not wearing a seat belt had 22 bags of heroin in his car, police said.
This was the second time in two weeks that John Lynch, 25, was caught with the drug in Windsor, police said. Full Story>> The $95 million town budget proposal was approved by voters Tuesday. ![]() PAUL ESSENFELD 5/7/09 A lively crowd of Windsor residents, local artists, and friends of the artists gathered this evening at the Windsor Art Center at the Freight House for the opening reception of the Hackcent Paintings and The Rainbow Connection, an exhibition of work by visual artists Kristina Newman Scott and Sam McKinniss. ReminderNews On Monday, April 27 the Windsor Town Council met at Town Hall to make its final deliberations regarding the fiscal year 2010 budget. Windsor, as with many cities and towns all over the United States, is faced with tough choices this year because of the economy. While it seems like budget time is tough every year, given that the last two budgets did not pass referendum by Windsor residents, this year’s deliberations include the proverbial monkey wrench. (Provided by the U.S. Geological Survey) MDC Finds Copepods And Rotifers In Water HARTFORD COURANT Customers in 10 towns including Windsor served by the MDC have been told to boil drinking water as a precaution. The MDC said it is conducting a study to determine why microscopic aquatic organisms called "copepods" and "rotifers" have been detected in the drinking water. Gov. M. Jodi Rell has applied for a $5.1 million federal stimulus grant for the construction of a fish passage on the Rainbow Dam on the Farmington River. Full Story

HARTFORD COURANT The town's Office of Community Development will hold a public hearing Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Ludlow Room in the lower level of town hall, 275 Broad St.
The purpose of the hearing is to solicit public input on the town's participation in the federal Community Development Block Grant Small Cities Program, and solicit suggestions for activities for possible inclusion in an application. METROPOLITAN DISTRICT COMMISSION This is your chance to properly dispose of gasoline, pesticides, turpentine, and other household hazardous waste for free.
The Windsor Household Hazwaste Collection will be held June 6th at the Poquonock Water Pollutuion Control Facility, 1222 Poquonock Avenue from 8 am to 1 pm. HARTFORD COURANT The Windsor Human Relations Commission will host its second annual "Tapestry of Religion Revisited" event April 30 at 6:30 p.m. in town hall, 275 Broad St.
The program, which promotes religious understanding, will provide a forum and an opportunity to learn more about various faiths, including Judaism, Islam, Hindu-ism, Buddhism, Native American, Roman Catholicism, Episcopalian, Congregational and Atheism. Each panelist will answer questions and a discussion will be held about the major tenets of each religion or spiritual belief.
