Car vs. Pole... Pole Wins... pole
PAUL ESSENFELD
Palisado Avenue was slippery 9:00 Monday morning, Jan.5, when Charles Comparetto of Enfield approached the curve at Macktown Road. His 1998 Ford Contour slid off the road into the guard rail and struck a utility pole.

There were wires down on the road and the pole was unstable when members of the Hayden Station Fire Company, part of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, arrived on the scene. Capt. Darren Galler was Incident Commander and Firefighters Justin Avery, Bryan Nelson, Lou Roy, and Anthony Williams were on hand.

They disconnected the car's battery and applied speedy dry to the spilled fluids. They blocked Macktown Road with Engine 8 to protect the scene and guard the downed wires until the utility company arrived.

Mr. Comparetto was transported to the hospital by Windsor Volunteer Ambulance. The volunteer firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and a half awaiting the CL&P.
