Think Summer! Gardens needed for July 10th “Windsor Garden Getaways” Tour GardenTour

Are you a creative gardener in the Windsor area?  Have you created an oasis you would like to share with appreciative people?   Following up on the success of our past two garden tours, the Windsor Historical Society and the Windsor Garden Club are teaming up to open a selection of gardens to the public.  This year’s garden tour, “Windsor Garden Getaways” will be held on Saturday, July 10th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour is generally self-guided, and/or guided by the property owners.   If you wish, a volunteer will be provided on tour day to guide visitors through your gardens.

To offer your garden for inclusion in the tour, please contact Thomas Graywacz of the Windsor
Garden Club at  860-688-3861 or via pager number 860-708-3001  (immediately following the tones, type in your number for a call back.)  You may also contact Christine Ermenc at the Windsor Historical Society at 860-688-3813.  The final list of gardens to be toured will be determined by the Windsor Garden Club.  While we cannot guarantee your garden will be chosen for inclusion, we will be glad to reatin your name as a candidate for next year’s garden tour.

The Windsor Historical Society, founded in 1921, invites visitors to explore the people, places, and events that have shaped Windsor for over 370 years.  The Society’s museum includes changing and permanent exhibition galleries; a hands-on history learning center for families; a research library and manuscript collection housing Windsor photographs, documents, ephemera, and genealogical materials, a museum shop and two historic houses open to the public--the 1758 John and Sarah Strong House and the 1767 Dr. Hezekiah Chaffee House.

We are located at 96 Palisade Avenue (Route 159) and open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.  General admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and students and free to children under 12 and WHS members.  Call (860) 688-3813 or visit us on the web at www.windsorhistoricalsociety.org for directions to the Society and more information about programs.  To receive e-reminders for public programs, please send your e-mail address to jalberti@windsorhistoricalsociety.org.
