Man Charged in Firey Crash That Killed Windsor Passenger
JOURNAL INQUIRER

A Bloomfield man who allegedly told police he drove up to triple the posted speed limit to see how his car handled faces a manslaughter charge for the fiery crash that killed his passenger.

Authorities say 27-year-old John Phakousonh hit a utility pole in Windsor in the December crash, then crawled over his friend's body to escape the burning wreckage.

Chhun Hor Taing, a 24-year-old Windsor resident, died in the crash.

Phakousonh is charged with manslaughter, driving under the influence and motor vehicle charges. He is free on $150,000 bond and returns to Enfield Superior Court on Feb. 3.

Police say Phakousonh told them he drove up to 90 mph in a zone posted at 30 mph. Investigators say they determined he was traveling at about 68 mph when the crash occurred..
