Thursday Entertainment In Windsor
Paula M Pierc, Windsor Chamber of Commerce

WALKING DOG Every summer music can be heard wafting through the center of town from the Broad Street green in Windsor on Thursday nights. Summer concerts, they're there for us every summer, but how does it all come together?

Concerts on the Green are a prime example of the Chamber, a non-profit organization separate from the town and it's long history of creating and maintaining programs that support and promote Windsor businesses while providing entertainment for the public.

The residents of Windsor love the free, open-air concerts. And our local businesses do too. Some businesses sponsor a concert and invite their employees to enjoy it as a group, some even offer each one a complimentary Chamber gift certificate to use at a local restaurant or shop that night. Chamber gift certificates are available to the public and make great gifts. They're accepted like cash at over 40 different businesses in town.

The concerts are truly a community event with wide appeal as many people from Windsor and other towns bring their families and friends to the center for dinner before the show. Many also take advantage of the Chamber's Summer Passport program to get stamps at restaurants, concerts and other attractions in town to win a TV, a Flip Video Camera or a Restaurant/Attraction Gift Certificate package.

Lots of great things happen on Thursday nights. In addition to the concerts, there's the new Read on the Green Program at 6:15 p.m. and First Town Downtown's Farmers' Market at 3:30 p.m., all on or near the green. It's a great day to come out and enjoy some family-friendly entertainment.

Summer concerts this year are especially varied and fun. Here's the lineup:
July 29 - Sounds of Frank, sponsored by Kimberly Hall
Aug. 5 - Sabor A Timba, sponsored by Konica Minolta Printing Services
Aug. 12 - Farmington Valley Band, sponsored by Carmon Funeral Homes
Aug. 19 - Maestro Men, sponsored by Windsor Recreation and Leisure Services

Join the Windsor Chamber of Commerce and First Town Downtown as they present summer concerts on the green now through Aug. 19. For more information call 860-688-5165 or go online to www.WindsorCC.org.
